35 Game Reviews

I played this game as soon as it was uploaded to Newgrounds. I read the instructions first, so I wasn't shocked that there were rooms with reversed controls. It certainly speaks well of your programming skills and potential as a game maker that you listened to the feedback in the reviews to tweak a few things that were frustrating for some players, like putting reverse controls in enormous letters in the appropriate rooms.

I thought the game was really well-designed. I like the graphics well enough, nothing was garish or off-putting as far as visual appeal goes. The music has a nice beat, but the sfx are a little too tinny sounding, even for this type of game. The blowback effect is a bit strong, but that's your choice as creator. Since you've changed the instakill spikes and lava into an 'hp burn' effect, the blowback is just another element of gameplay. I agree with your assessment that adding health isn't necessary because the game's premise is 'how long can you survive'.

The only improvements I would recommend besides a sfx tweak would be more variety among enemies and perhaps a toggle to adjust music and sfx volume, not just 'on' or 'off'. If you ultimately decide to add health to the game, I would limit it to an unlockable 'gauntlet' mode where there is no ceiling for numbers of rooms cleared (a player could conceivably clear hundreds of rooms in that format).

Great job, I look forward to more submissions from you.

Wow. My expectations were very low when I saw only a 'start' and 'continue' button on the menu screen. No controls, help screen, what the hell? So I clicked start. It quickly became clear that rules weren't necessary, the controls are in the comments, and everything you needed to do was obvious.

The game was really fun to play. It did get increasingly complicated, but not to the point where you wanted to pull your hair out. The graphics were minimal, but the controls were responsive and it was challenging enough to keep you focused. The only things I would add would be more powerups and more medals (like 'died XX times' or medals for each powerup, door passed through, etc). Made me want to check out your other submissions. Good job!

I think this game is quite entertaining. The graphics aren't "beautiful", and I don't mean that as an insult. I think this game is a great example that you don't have to make a game look as slick as, say, William and Sly 2 to make it addictive or enjoyable. While it certainly isn't an easy game, I think the stats are a little misleading because you're going to have to slaughter A LOT of pigs just to figure out the layout of each level, particularly as you progress in the game, but also depending on your strategy. The game is clearly well-thought out, challenging, and has decent replay value.

I also really appreciate the fact that the level selection screen will allow you to resend medals later if you weren't initially credited. Especially with a 'beat the level' game, this should be a must. Between people's own computer issues, NG's medal issues since the redesign and occasionally programming errors, this keeps gamers (especially medal whores like me) from abandoning a fun game because there's no payoff.

I would recommend this game to just about anyone, not just animal-killing sadists!

The real title of the game, which is visible in the game hosted here is "Eight Letters In Search of a Word".

The reasons I believe this game to be stolen:

1. "Author" renamed the game from something clever to something extremely basic. (to avoid detection?)
2. "Author" offers no real description of the game.
3. "Author" has 4 medals, all secret ones. (Easier to avoid detection that medals don't work)
4. Reviewers have noted the Top 20 scores don't work and believe it to be a glitch, "author" has stated this in response to reviewers. Well, the Top 20 works just fine on the actual website.
5. Game only requires Flash 6 or greater.
6. After examining all the author's responses, reviews, etc, it's hard to imagine someone who seems pretty ignorant of spelling and grammar could produce a game that's contingent upon a decent vocab.

I really love this game, but with all the stolen games that have appeared since the redesign, I hate the idea of someone profiting from someone else's hard work.

saathvikputhran responds:

Why would I not name it world puzzle? and It is'nt stolen and full discription is not available now but will be when I update it so no need to be a hater voter and the medals work but it is a secret medals because the user's will know how to unlock it. And dont you know there is a word limit for naming the game that is why I named it word puzzle. And highscores will be available to be seen when I fix the glitch when I update the game so wait. Ok game and response updated now there is a full description now dont complain.

Way surpassed expectations

I had no expectations with this game, I generally have avoided games that require sound to play. But this game rocks. Some of the songs were a little too soft for me, but I got a perfect on the first song (after about 20 attempts). I liked all the unlockables and secrets and of course the shit ton of medals.

Really good game

I see a lot of art that is similar in style to your characters as they appear in the cutscene/movies, so that's the only area I would improve on. A little more character style variety would be nice, if you're only going to have one character style per type (all berserkers look the same, for instance) then open up the color wheel so you can choose any color for hair, skin, etc. I had to grind for 5+ levels to get the 21st gold star, though this wouldn't have been as tedious if I was playing to full game instead of the demo. The best xp fight was the 6th island, extreme ranking, played ad nauseum until I could get my mains up to level 15.

Great planning

Best plan for success ever: crank out as many mediocre games as possible with in-game ads, add high value medals to keep medal whores coming back for more. Watch the ad revenue pour in. Repeat.

Honestly, you are a role model for entrepreneurs everwhere!

On a serious note, this is the only game of yours that hasn't been a breeze to complete. As with other reviewers, the biggest issue for me is the platforms collapsing before you even fire. On level 11 I literally had to fire within the first second to hit the right-most Jack before he was blocked by rubble. I like your animation style and I am one of those medal whores I mentioned so I will continue to play your games ad nauseum.

Amazing...ly bad

Who needs Abobo when you have this fine piece of flash?!

It was cute. I may have carpal tunnel syndrome now, but I don't remember because I gave myself a lobotomy to get through 36000 clicks.

Also, jazz is not universally loved.

You did go all out with the variety of hats, though. Keep improving your skills and you may one day make something awesome.

Cogwirrel responds:

Hahaha! This made me laugh :). Nice one on getting the final badge - I can barely get through all of the hats without wanting to throw myself off a bridge.

Awesome game

I found the game to be really enjoyable, once you figure out the timing for the combos/parry/dodge, etc. the enemies aren't hard to beat. I think other players who've experienced issues hitting combos either haven't stuck with trying to learn the timing or have P.O.S computers. Hell, I'm even playing this on IE with no problems!

Haven't finished the game, but the alchemist's explanation of the events is BOSS. Loved the graphics in that part especially.

Anyway, keep up the good work, I look forward to future installments of the SOL series!

You made this flash game...

....LIKE A BOSS.

Good job 10/10 5/5
